Glasgow School holidays are always fun, even if they’re just for a day. They give you time to catch up on the latest movies, try out the hottest gaming titles and see friends from other schools.
However, none of these holiday events will be viable without planning. Also, no planning would work if you don’t know when you’ll be having holidays.
If you’re schooling or enrolling a kid in a Glasgow school and you’re curious about when you’ll be having school holidays, you’re at the right place.
This post will outline all the Glasgow school holidays that the council has announced yet and when they’re taking place.
Glasgow Council School Holidays 2023/24
For every academic session, the Glasgow council publishes a schedule including all school holidays in the county. All schools in Glasgow adhere to it and take the holidays as required.
If you want to know when you’ll be having holidays and breaks, you can use the Glasgow council website or this website.
Here is a list of all Glasgow school holidays from the council’s website, along with their dates and the purpose.
Glasgow September Weekend (Autumn Half Term Holiday)
The September weekend is usually one of the first holidays of the term after resumption on a regular academic session.
The September weekend marks the middle of the autumn academic session, and it involves taking a Friday and a Monday off from schooling activities.
Councils set the September weekend dates for schools in their vicinity, and for Hampshire, it’s on Friday, September 23rd, 2022, and Monday, September 26th, 2022.
Glasgow October Break (Autumn Holidays)
The October break marks the end of the academic session in October. It’s a week-long holiday that commences from Monday, October 17th, to Friday, October 21st, 2022. However, kids won’t return to their schools until Monday, October 24th, 2022.
It’s one of the lengthier holidays for Scottish students outside those set aside to celebrate a religious event like Christmas or Easter.
Glasgow October In-Service Day
The in-service day is a holiday to students, but teachers and other non-teaching staff must show up at work regardless.
While some in-service days take place during the holidays, the ones that interrupt academic activities are the most noteworthy.
One of these noteworthy in-service days is the one that takes place in the middle of October, precisely Friday, October 14th, 2022.
Since students are generally absent on in-service days, there is more time for staff meetings and teachers to grade students’ tests.
Glasgow Christmas/New Year Holiday
The Christmas and New Year’s Holidays start towards the end of the calendar year before Christmas and end after New Year.
This holiday lasts for two weeks, making it one of the lengthiest holidays for the session.
Schools across Glasgow will close by 2:30 pm on Friday, December 22nd, 2022, to commence the holidays. The schools will resume on Wednesday, January 4th, 2023.
Glasgow February Break (Spring Midterm Holiday)
After the Christmas and New Year’s Holidays, Glasgow schools won’t have another break until Monday, February 13th, 2023.
Of course, this isn’t Valentine’s break, it is to mark the middle of the Spring term, and like other midterm breaks, it lasts for two days.
Schools won’t open on Monday, February 13th, 2023, and Tuesday, February 14th, 2023, to mark the middle of the Spring term.
Glasgow February In-Service Day
There are a couple of in-service days in an academic session, but none is quite as enjoyable to students as one that comes immediately after a midterm break.
Wednesday, February 15th, 2023, is an in-service day for all schools in Lanarkshire. Recall that the preceding two days are for the February break, making it three days in a row for students.
Glasgow Easter/Spring Break
The lengthiest break for the 2023/24 session is a joint one; for the Spring Break and to commemorate Easter.
This break lasts for almost three weeks, starting with a 2:30 pm closure on Friday, March 31st, 2023. It continues until Monday, April 17th, 2023, when all schools reopen and resume academic activities.
This holiday is the best opportunity for vacations, picnics, visitations, and similar activities that you’ve always wanted to do.
Glasgow May Day
There is also a holiday for all Lanarkshire schools on Monday, May 1st, 2023, to commemorate the May Day celebration of the previous day.
May Day marks International Workers Day for all workers around the world. While the day happens to be a Sunday, schools and related institutions can take the closest working day off to commemorate the day.
This holiday is the first of the three holidays in May, making it the month with the most holidays in the year.
Glasgow May In-Service Day
All schools will take another in-service day on Thursday, May 25th, 2023, for students to take another day off.
In-service days may be boring to teachers, but they have to appear a couple of times every year, and this happens to be one of the days.
Glasgow May Weekend Holiday
All schools in Lanarkshire will take a local holiday on Friday, May 26, to Monday, May 29th, 2023. The local holiday is specific to the county and not to the entire State of Glasgow or even Scotland.
The Public holiday And Queen’s Jubilee Holiday
The Queen’s Jubilee holiday marks the anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s reign. It usually takes place on June’s third day every year, but a public holiday on a preceding day will make it look longer than it is.
These holidays will make for a four-day weekend, starting from Thursday.
Glasgow Summer Break
On Friday, June 23rd, 2023, all schools in Glasgow will close by 1 pm for the summer break.
The council has decided on the resumption date after this break, and the resumption date is Wednesday, August 16th, 2023 as confirmed by official.
